Recumbent and upright both have their own features but when it comes to speed there are variations in the features then. It was assumed that usually an only an upright bike gives a fastest ride as compared to recumbent ones bu this is a wrong perception because some recumbent bikes also provide super bike speeds. Both bikes are the best riders on the road.

THE FASTEST RECUMBENT BIKE:
As far as the speed of the bike is concerned, there are some newly made recumbent bikes who are really faster then any upright bike. On flat ground the recumbent will be faster due to aerodynamics.
WEIGHT OF BIKE:
Weight matters a lot when it comes to the speed of a bike. Heavy weighted bikes are generally difficult to drive fast. Usually an upright road bike is lighter than a recumbent bike because of its large capacity of seat and long covered tube along with a long chain, therefore it difficult for a recumbent bike to drive with a very high speed. Due to heavy weight it is somehow difficult to manage a heavy speed for a rider. Whereas upright bikes are easily rode faster because of the lighter weight.
RESISTANCE OF WIND:
As recumbent bikes are lower ones and are more towards the ground therefore the resistance of wind is very low due to which it can get the faster speed. Whereas an upright bike is more above the ground therefore the resistance of speed hinders the rider to catch the fast speed.
COMFORTIBILTY ZONE OF RECUMBENT ROAD BIKES:
The Comfortibility zone of recumbent bike gives an extra edge to its fame. As people are more relaxed therefore they can ride the bike for a longer time even if the speed is high. But if the person is using an upright bike, which is yet more faster can tire him because of the extensive exertion on it.
There are debates whether which bike is more faster but it is clear that an upright road bike is more faster than recumbent bike. But there are some new innovations in recumbent which are using a technique to ride as faster as one can. But if we make a comparison between them, than an upright bike will win because of its light weight and many other features. Whereas recumbent bikes gives an extra comfort level to its user but are generally slower in speed than upright bikes.
